| A woman walking under the Azidi Monument, Tehran, Iran |
| Tehran's formidable Azidi (Liberty) Monument, constructed in 1971 commemorates the Persian empire. The 50 meter tower is clad entirely in cut marble and ascends high into the Tehran sky. At the top of the tower is a museum which opens into a crypt where lighting is subdued and in keeping with a place of honour occupied by a copy of "Cyrus's Cylinder". The translation of this first "Declaration of Human Right" is inscribed in golden letters on the walls. |
